Participants in the MTHFR Accutane Research Study can use their StrateGene DNA report as a resource when working with any health provider well versed in epigenetics and the intricacies of the body’s methylation cycle.
Having had to recover from Accutane damage myself, I’ve developed the Accutane Recovery Stack as a visual model to help clients gain clarity about the multiple levels that may need to be addressed in recovering from Accutane side effects.
The model represents a comprehensive approach to healing and attempts to clarify the various levels involved and their interrelationship. Each layer is dependent on the layer below it. So for example, the top of the pyramid is dependent on the functioning of all the layers beneath. Cellular function is dependent on epigenetics, etc….
How It Works
In my own process of healing, I eventually had the realization that there may be genetic susceptibilities which can explain, at least in part, why some people don’t have any problems after taking Isotretinoin whereas some people get very ill and stay that way. For this reason, I have launched the gene study to see if people who do end up suffering long term have a presence of certain gene SNPs (pronounced “snips”).
In looking at the genetic and epigenetic layers in the body, we actually get “underneath” the symptoms of Accutane damage and look for ways to support improved functioning of the body’s different structural layers. As you can see in the Recovery Stack graphic, these foundational layers are several levels below some of the higher functions in the body. These higher layers need to be addressed as well but gaining awareness of what’s happening at the genetic and epigenetic layers helps to ensure that we’re not missing any low hanging fruit in terms of supporting the body’s healing processes.
One of the most striking points in this model is the level of symbiosis. The digestive system is an incredibly delicate and powerful interface between the body and the outside world. This interface involves not only our own cells, but trillions of bacteria which outnumber our own cells by 10 to 1.
A chemotherapy course of Isotretinoin (Accutane) has the ability to significantly impact the symbiotic balance in the gut (creating a condition called “dysbiosis” or “gut imbalance”). Disturbing these delicate tissues and the sensitive relational balance with the bacteria can wreak absolute havoc on a person’s health and create negative feedback loops that get worse with time.
Modern, western medicine has very little understanding of how all these pieces in the gut work together and impact total health. On my own journey however, I’ve had to gain an understanding of how all these layers of the body interact.
Working with Me
If this body of work interests you, I am available to work with individuals interested in healing from long term side effects. You can schedule an Accutane Intake Consultation below. The intake process involves filling out an in-depth questionnaire about your health history with Accutane. This information helps me begin identifying where your challenges are in advance of our call so that I can do my best to provide you with useful information during the consultation. If you’d like to proceed with this process, you can select a date below to schedule a 90 minute consult. After completing the scheduling process, you will receive an email with instructions for filling out the intake form.
Note that if you have participated in the MTHFR research study, generating a DNA report in the process, we can use that report to inform the healing process.
